Anwar’s No.1 “Katak” Loses Badly In Asahan

Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s No.1 “katak”, Datuk Seri Idris Haron has lost badly.

According to official results, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Fairul Nizam Roslan won the Asahan seat with 5,659 votes while PH’s Idris won only 2,666 votes.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Dhanesh Basil comes in third place with 1,364 votes while three other independent candidates, Mohd. Akhir Ayob, Azmar Abdul Hamid and Mohd. Noor Salleh lost their deposit.

Apart from Asahan, BN has won another 20 seats, bringing the total 21 seats to a comfortable two-thirds majority.

PH’s 15 seats in GE15 was slashed by two thirds, leaving the coalition to merely 5 seats, namely Ayer Keroh, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir and Bukit Katil, while PN won 2 seats.

Idris, together with three other ADUNs had in October withdrew support for the State Government, resulting in snap polls being called.

He was then fielded as PH candidate under the PKR quota in his hometown, Asahan.
