Budget 2022 Passes First Hurdle After PH Decides Not To Object

The Dewan Rakyat approved Budget 2022 at the policy stage through a voice vote today, after Pakatan Harapan (PH) decided not to call for a vote count.

The budget, tabled on Oct 29 with an allocation of RM332.1 billion, is the largest to date.

About 100 MPs had debated on the budget since November 1, followed by ministerial replies on the questions raised by the MPs.

This afternoon, several Opposition MPs had asked for a vote count because they felt there were more nays than ayes, but it did not materialise as only 12 MPs stood up.

The twelve who asked for a vote count are from Warisan (7 MPs), Pejuang (4 MPs) and MUDA (1 MP).

For the record, a vote count will only materialise when at least 15 MPs agrees to do so.

But none of the PH MPs stood up, as PH had signed an MOU with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to support or abstain from the vote for Budget 2022.

The budget will now be debated at the committee stage.
