DAP Will Withdraw From MOU, If Anti-hop Law Not Passed By 24 March

DAP will withdraw from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UMNO’s Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, if the anti-hop law is not passed this Parliament sitting which ends on 24 March 2022.

The ultimatum was issued by DAP Chairman, Tan Kok Wai.

In a report published by China Press on Thursday, the Cheras Member of Parliament said that he does not agree with the delay of the first reading of the bill.

He added that the MOU was signed for the sake of the anti-hop law, among the many reforms intended.

A source in the Prime Minister’s Department earlier this month said that the bill would be delayed due to the Johor State Elections.

But Chong Chieng Jen who is DAP’s National Vice Chairman, in an election speech announced that the first reading will be held this 21 March, followed by the second reading on 23 March.

The current Parliament session which began on 28 February, will end on 24 March 2022.
