Goldman’s Tim Leissner Reveals 10-year Affair With Former Astro CEO

Former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner has claimed at the 1Malaysia Development Berhad trial in New York that he had a 10-year affair with former Astro, Rohana Rozhan.

Describing Rohana as his lover for 10 years from 2003, Tim testified that she had been upset and had threatened to expose him when he told her he wanted to end their relationship to marry another woman.

Following that, he bought a US$10 million home in London in 2013 to silence her about his involvement in the scandal.

Rohana left Astro in 2019, shortly after Pakatan Harapan’s Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad became the new Prime Minister.

Tim, who in 2018 pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate US anti-bribery laws and launder money, is the prosecution’s witness in the criminal trial involving another former Goldman Sachs banker, Roger Ng.

Tim further claimed that Ng told him former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had wanted to secure jobs for his three children with Goldman when Najib met his former boss Lloyd Blankfein in 2009.

According to Tim, fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho alias Jho Low was the person who arranged the meeting.

Tim later helped Najib’s daughter get a job at TPG, an American investment company.

In a previous testimony Tim described Roger as a friend of Jho Low, who was the intermediary who enabled Goldman to sell US$6.5 billion in bonds to 1MDB and raking in a fee of US$600 million.

Roger, 49, is facing charges of pocketing millions of dollars in kickbacks from the 1MDB deal.
