At least one PKR Member of Parliament and UMNO Member of Parliament have expressed a show of sympathy and support for convicted Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Hassan Karim who is PKR’s MP for Pasir Gudang described Najib as a “warrior” who fought his case till the very end.
“I am not a sadist who loudly cheers because Najib was finally taken to Kajang prison.”
“I had felt sad previously when Anwar Ibrahim was taken to Sungai Buloh prison several years ago.”
“As such, I sympathise with Najib’s supporters, especially those who had travelled by bus from Pekan, Pahang.”
“Like Anwar, he too has supporters.”
Hassan who is also a loyalist to PKR President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Najib has shown the character of a warrior when defending himself in court.
“Yes, Najib may have fallen but he put up a stiff fight as best as he could in court.”
“He did not surrender easily. This is a character of a warrior,” he said.
In a separate statement on Tuesday, UMNO’s Bagan Datok MP, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also branded Najib as a true warrior who would not relent in his struggle.
The UMNO President said that Najib’s spirit would not fade, nor will UMNO give up its struggle.
On Tuesday, Najib became the country’s first former Prime Minister to be sent to prison after the Federal Court dismissed his final appeal.
On July 28, 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced Najib to 12 years in jail and a total fine of RM210 million after being found guilty of seven charges of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of position in the RM42mil SRC International case.
