Acting Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong on Thursday launched a new e-hailing application- TAXI4U.
The launch however, was not without criticisms as several netizens pointed out the similarities between the logos of TAXI4U and another app launched 10 years ago- MyTeksi.
Some said that at a closer look, the logo of TAXI4U seems to be a mirrored image of MyTeksi’s logo, with only a slight change to the shade of green.
The Malaysian-born MyTeksi which was launched in 2012 had moved to Singapore in 2014.
It was rebranded as Grab two years later, before being listed on Nasdaq in December 2021.
According to news reports, Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah Nasional had admitted that it rejected Grab’s application for a financial grant of US$10 million in 2015.
However, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, Temasek Holdings, agreed to finance Grab.
Grab’s growth from strength to strength had since attracted Japan’s Softbank and carmakers Toyota and Hyundai to invest funds as well.
According to a research conducted by Blackbox in February 2022, Grab is currently the largest ride-sharing application in Southeast Asia.
